The national executive President of Environmental Degradation and Pollution Prevention (ENVIDAP), Chief Dr Clement Mgbechi (JP) has extended his condolences to the families of the Osisioma pipeline explosion victims which happened at Umuaduru and Umuimo, Urata in Osisioma Local Government Area of Abia State.
The explosion which took place at about 2:45am on Friday 12th October, 2018 while some villagers were scooping fuel from NNPC pipeline that was believed to have been bursted by some unknown individuals. As at Monday 15th of October, 2018, the death tolls has increased to about 115 persons including a pregnant woman and four soldiers. The soldier were said to have been collecting money from the villagers who were scooping the fuel at the scene
ENVIDAP President also stated that a committee have been set up to investigate the real cause of the fire outbreak that has claimed lives and damaged properties in the communities.
In other to avoid such occurrences, the national president ENVIDAP has also warned people to desist from the act of pipeline vandalism and report any body or individual who vandalizes pipelines to the appropriate authorities for further actions. He said anybody caught will be handed over to the security agency and allow the law to take its cause.
