Akwa Ibom: Governor Emmanuel Udom Goofs Again

The Gov. Udom led administration in its usual way of misleading the Akwa Ibom people has lied about its failure in ensuring the take off of the proposed Vehicle Assembly Plant in the State.

The former Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, now PDP National Legal Adviser, Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem recently stated that it was impossible for foreign partners to key in given the unpredictable state of foreign exchange in Nigeria.

The question that would ordinarily come to one’s mind would be whether the Akwa Ibom State Government did not do a feasibility study in order to know how viable such project would be before investing in same.

It is common knowledge that the Akwa Ibom State Government have spent millions in consultancy and other logistics in respect of the project but to no avail. These monies if invested in well planned projects would have had direct bearing on the lives of Akwa Ibom people.

Within the past three (3) years of the Udom Emmanuel led Administration, the Governor has been busy doling out millions of naira meant for the development of the state for Ground breaking ceremonies, a ritual that has kept the State backward in terms of infrastructural development the state was known for under previous Administrations.

Such ground breaking ceremonies could be seen in Worship centre in Banking Layout, Hatchery Centre in Uruan and the likes.

Rather than take the path of Honour of bowing out for purpose driven and competent hands to man the affairs of the State, the Governor is busy making a mockery of himself and his cabinet.

We call on all AkwaIbomites home and abroad to rise up and demand full accountability of funds spent on these white elephant projects.

Mr. Enoidem while holding brief for Gov. Udom lied about the efforts the Akwa Ibom State Government is making in the area of job creation, infrastructure development and political inclusion.

Truth is, the Udom led administration has failed in creating jobs for Akwa Ibomites, particularly the teeming youths. Thousands of youths are still scrambling for government jobs while others have left the state in search of greener pastures.

Viable industries have not been built to employ our youths and the state’s economic policies have not been effective to fastrack the development of small and medium scale enterprises.

Public infrastructure within the state are in a sorry state and the state government is not taking to construct nor maintain same. The bad state of Babangida Avenue is a clear pointer to this fact.

There has been lack of political inclusion in the running of the affairs of the state.

Opportunities to serve in government have been mainly given to people who are not in touch with the people at the grassroots. This is evident in the bitterness shown towards the Governor by his in-laws who recently defected to the APC on grounds of being marginalized in the affairs of the state.

One can therefore boldly state that the Gov. Udom led administration has failed to deliver on its core mandate which he promised the Akwa Ibom people under oath.
