All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) members are beginning to makeup their minds on the action to take against Diamond Bank if they refuse to come out boldly and refute the negative story peddled around against their former Managing Director Dr. Alex Otti OFR.
Recently, the social media space was a washed with a story of Access Bank trying to buy over Diamond Bank. The story which was refuted by Diamond bank was followed by another story alleging that the bank is in financially distress and that their former MD Alex Otti is behind the banks distress due to his mismanagement of the bank.
While the bank took its time to dispel the rumour of its buy over, the other allegation against its former MD was not refuted.
The decision of the bank not to refute the latter allegation seems to be causing disaffection between APGA members and the bank.
During a recent interaction with APGA members, majority of them feel that Diamond Bank’s silence regarding the allegation against its former MD is intentional and maybe political.
They feel that an external influence is playing a role through the bank to undermine its former MD which they claim was the most successfully MD of Diamond Bank since its inception.
When AFN interacted with one of the leaders of the party by name Mazi Onyekachi Egwu, he stated that the propaganda against Dr. Alex Otti OFR is too malicious and that the same propaganda paints the bank in bad light and that the refusal of the bank to refute it shows that a third party is involved that is enjoying from this negative propaganda. Fingers are at the moment pointing to a former director of the bank , who was recruited by Abia State as a consultant on loans.
Mazi Egwu went further to explain that the timing of the said propaganda was meant to destabilize the campaign of Dr. Alex Otti, but that the propaganda failed to produce the result they intended and Abians are fully behind Otti.
“The propaganda was designed to tarnish the image of Otti, but it failed because the people are solidly behind him. The only thing I am disappointed about is why will Diamond Bank stay back and watch people tarnish the image of their former MD when they have records to put the records straight”
On further interaction, AFN gathered that some APGA members are already preparing to mobilize a mass action against Diamond bank where members of the party in Abia State and beyond will close their accounts in protest if Diamond bank if Diamond continue to dabble into Abia politics.
AFN wonders if this threat is real or just coming from die hard political supporters of Dr Otti but what is certain is that if the die hard Otti supporter make good their threat, a lot of accounts will be lost.
