Nigeria First Lady To Flag Off Support Programme For Over 10,000 Persons In Akwa Ibom

Aisha Buhari, wife of President Mohammadu Buhari will tomorrow flag off life support programme in Akwa Ibom state. The project tagged: Future Assured Programme is one of her pet projects toward empowering youth and women in Nigeria.

Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang who disclosed this today to newsmen in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital said over 10,000 indigenes of the state are expected to benefit from the scheme.

The programme which is also supported by the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and National Assembly is for all devoid of political party line.

Enang said beneficiaries were selected through a transparent process by the NDE who is the principal host of the programme, saying the gesture was not part of the electioneering campaigns, though it is All Progressives Congress (APC) led government programme.

He said that some of the beneficiaries had earlier applied for the programme online while others who did not would also be carried along to ensure even spreading of the gesture to help reduce poverty index in the state.

According to him some of the beneficiaries will be empowered with non-refundable grants, interest-free loans while others will be trained on various areas of skills.

“She will be here as a Guest of the All Progressives Congress’ family and Akwa Ibom people to flag off the programme which is an empowerment programme aimed at giving starter packs and other programmes that are undertaken by her pet project, Future Assured Project and the National Directorate of Employment.

“Other persons will also collaborate on that programme including the Niger Delta Development Commission, the Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East, Senator Godswill Akpabio and other National Assembly members who have most of their constituency empowerment programmes that they would want to use that opportunity to empower their people”,
Enang said.
