Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State says all the local government areas will be encouraged to establish waste management agency to help in solving the problem of waste management in the state.
The governor made this known while featuring on Radio Nigeria Network Service Audience Participatory Programme, Radio Link in Abuja.
He explained that the state had made concerted efforts to reduce waste through recycling noting that the flood being witness in some areas was as a result of drainage blockage and warned residents against throwing waste into drainages.
Governor Ikpeazu pointed out that a lot of reforms were ongoing in the state civil service and noted that extension of service had been stopped while government was able to save twenty four million naira monthly as a result of the ongoing verification in the local government system.
He said to compliment the efforts of security agencies in the state, government provided them with new vans and called for new technologies to be put in place by the federal government to achieve its objectives in the sector and assured investors of safer environment in Abia state.
Governor Ikpeazu noted that his adminstration would embark on the construction of five hundred rural roads as equipment had been procured for the assignment and paid more emphasise towards the construction of Ohanku and Eke-akpara roads in Aba to boost commerce.
The governor, who explained that government would declare state of emergency on education, construct agro industrial clusters and Enyimba Economic City, urged Abians to show belief in his administration and always pay their taxes to designated banks.
Some of the people who contributed during the programme, including Mr Ugochukwu Emezue from Umuahia, Alvan Egeonu from Bende, Mr Emmanuel Esi from Abuja and Ugochukwu Nwankwo from Aba applauded the governor on his achievements and urged him to redouble efforts towards payment of salaries and pensions, road construction and proper waste management.
