Hon. Martin Ikechukwu Apugo, has been affirmed the authentic candidate of the All Progressive congress (APC) primaries conducted in 2018 for the Ikwuano/ Umuahia Federal House of Representatives.
Delivery the Judgement in Owerri, the Appeal Court Judge said the High Court in Umuahia lacked jurisdiction to had entertained the matter as it had elapsed the 180 days stipulated duration.
He further explained the Appellant Court also considered the results of the primary election tenderd to it by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC which indicated that Hon. Martin Apugo won with large margin.
In his reaction, council to Hon. Martin Apugo, Bar. Oliver Amuzie, expressed satisfaction over the Appeal Court Judgement which affirmed the victory of his client.
He applauded the Appellant court for its wisdom to set aside the earlier judgement of the Federal High Court in Umuahia which nullified the primaries that brought his client on board.
Reacting to the Judgement, Hon. Martin Apugo thanked the Appeal court for the Judgement noting that he won the said primaries clean and clear and the party also gave him nomination.
Apugo also expressed optimism that he would also win in the current election tribunal, adding that everybody knew that he won the 2019 Election contested with Hon. Sam Onuigbo of the PDP whom INEC declared winner.
Recall that Justice Daniel Osiagor had earlier in May annulled the matter at the federal high court Umuahia after a stipulated time of 180 days which made the judgement baseless.
