The Acting Managing Director of the NDDC, Prof Nelson Brambaifa has declared that the Agency will not spare any efforts in intervening in the area of healthcare delivery. The NDDC boss stated this when he spoke today at the 2019 conference of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Rivers state branch.
In his words, “our vision of a wealthier Niger Delta is intrinsically tied to our efforts to promote a healthier region. During the recent outbreak of Lassa fever in some states in the region, we intervened promptly. Our people must be healthy to enjoy the development we bring”.
The NDDC boss disclosed that on assumption of office at the NDDC, the Management team took a decision to revive the popular and beneficial free healthcare programme. According to him, all is now set to resume free medical treatment in the creeks and communities of the Niger Delta.
Prof Brambaifa revealed that over 1.2million documented patients have been treated, from simple diagnoses to complicated surgeries; with 6000 referral cases effectively managed while a total of 3500 communities have been visited by the free medical mission.
The NDDC boss hinted that the Agency will continue to partner with the NMA in order to provide quality healthcare in the Niger Delta region.
The theme of this year’s NMA conference is “Leveraging Social and Environmental Determinants of Health”
