Ahead of the 28th years anniversary of the creation of Abia State, the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has expressed Government’s resolve to continue to uphold the goals of the founding fathers that worked tirelessly to ensure creation of the state.
Dr. Ikpeazu who stated this during an Interdenominational Service marking the 28th year anniversary of the creation of Abia State held at Mater Dei Cathedral, Umuahia, reiterated Government’s commitment to fulfill all the electioneering promises made to the people in their bid to make Abia better than they met it for future generation.
The Governor represented by his Deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, acknowledged that though a lot is still expected from government to meet up with the people’s expectations, government is nevertheless resolute in its commitment to address and tidy every lose end as it concerns hand over of schools to the churches and urged members of the clergy in particular and Christians in general to continue to pray for the State and nation as they pass through a very challenging phase.
Speaking further, Governor Ikpeazu thanked God for the creation of Abia State and for leading the State so far, appreciating every stakeholder including the security agencies for contributing to the peaceful coexistence in the State, as well as the perfect harmony existing between all the various arms of government.
In his homily, the Catholic Bishop of Umuahia, Most Rev. Dr Lucius Ugorji, thanked God for the creation of Abia State 28 years ago and commended efforts of past and present leaders of the State in harnessing the abundant human and natural resources towards her development and called for concerted and collective efforts from both leaders and Abians for a positive turn around in the State and society at large.
Bishop Ugorji used the occasion to commend Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu-led administration for addressing the problem of youth unemployment through the lifting of the embargo on employment which he described as a step in the right direction as well as its commitment in partnering the church to ensure quality education in the school system through the return of some primary schools to various churches and called for regular payment of workers and teachers.
The Catholic Bishop further extolled the position of Abia state on Ruga Settlement and the Governor’s public declaration that no portion of Abia land is available for RUGA. He also commended the government’s efforts at ensuring food security in the State through its policies on sustainable agriculture. The Catholic Bishop concluded by praying for God’s continued protection, prosperity and peace upon the State.
