Herdsmen

To think that at some point or the day will come in our lives and given all we have been through in this country as ndi Igbo, the so called “Fulani Herdsmen” would come from hundreds of thousands of miles away to kidnap, rape, rob and kill us in our land would have been a nightmare or said to be sympthoms of maleria. It either means that the invading Fulanis now have better knowledge of our environment than we do or our people are too afraid or cowardly to even defend ourselves in the face of the worst aggression.

That our people are randomly shot at on the highways, either killed or injured, robbed and taken into our own forests as kidnap victimes while we negotiate and pay ransomes to have them released is, to say the least, a big shame on the part of our leaders at all levels, from the community, local government, state and federal levels. It is also a failure on the part of our youths who cannot defend their land.

A situation where parents traveling with their young children were both kidnapped and taken away right before their children, was so tearful, senseless, mean, inhuman, humiliating and the height of the Fulani menace and invassion of our land. It could have happened to anyone in that circumstance. Poor kids!.

The last time l checked, there’s no law in any part of the world that says people have no right to defend themselves against people who have come to kill or is killing them. It is only a tree that stands waiting after a threat to cut it down and seeing others so threatened, being cut down.

It’s the high time Igbos woke up from their state fear and confused slumber to ask themselves how they got to this pitiable point of watching their defenceless people being killed by those they are not at war with. As ndi lgbo go home at this time of the year for their new yam festivals, on the agendas for discussion should be the ongoing criminal activities of the armed “Fulani herdsmen” on our land, the urgent steps that should be taken to defend our people & keep space for our children & future generations.

Those our people who have built fortresses, can afford personal security for themselves and are not talking or helping in anyway to prevent the killing of their people, may have no place to hide in the near future if nothing is done to obviate the current trend..

Our hearts and prayers go out to those little children who had their parents taken away from them on Nsude/ Udi road in Enugu state for no fault of their own.
