Abaribe

I fully subscribe to the opinion and position of Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe on issues of concern to our region.

It is high time we rose up to the challenge to fight for our rights ans say we are here even when no one wants to acknowledge that we are.

Abaribe

The fact remains that, hencefortth, no federal administration in Nigeria should be able to borrow from any international lender across the world, secured on our “common” resources, if the South East region is not listed, seen or recognised as a full fledged beneficiary of such infrastructure develoment loan.

This position is sacrosanct and founded on our having a real and major stakeholder status in this country, both as an oil producing region who bring so much to the table and played a major role in her coming into being as an independent country. Moreover, the region’s share in the vicarious responsibility of paying back such loans, is never been in contention. We should not be part of refunding any loan to develop others, mostly northern part, of the country, that put nothing on the table. Same way a recent attempt or proposal to borrow over $22b for sectional physical development failed, shall the new desperate, cap in hand begging, move to borrow about $6 b fail, unless it is discussed and agreement reached on modalities. That’s the truth.

For all the current leaders of this country may care to know, take it or leave it, this country will not move any forward or will continue to stagnate, not with the deliberate exclussion of the people of the South East region from the major scheme of things, no matter how hard they try. Period.

We do not need to bear arms or rebel against anyone, but work through the proper established recognised and available channels at the inernational fora.

Our being taken for granted today was implicit in the begining of the current democratic dispensation when the good men and women of our region who did not believe in the sincerity of the military to hand over power to civilians, stayed away, allowing some touts and confessed criminals to assume political power.

Some of these evil men, though out of elective positions, have tenatiously held on to power through their cronies. This has brought so much hatred, division and corruption at a huge cost to the people. It has also worked against us as a people, with the people elected at the state level, abandoning the people and political platforms that gave them power to scramble and fight to overtake each other in pleasing the central government for protection when they leave and possible federal appointments.

This has robbed the people of the region the needed political leadership to fight alongside the leadership of Ohanaeze, for the people.

Senator Abaribe is one in a million politician and the region salutes his courage, fighting spirit, boldness, tenacity of purpose, love for his people, transparency and unbiased approach to issues that concern and touch their hearts.

A leader indeed.

My take.
Dave Agwalla.
