Buhari’s Nationwide Curfew Begins Today

The nationwide curfew announced by President Muhammadu Buhari begins today.

It begins from 8pm to 6am.

The curfew was announced Monday night as part of measures to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Buhari said his decision was based on consultations with the Presidential Task Force and the Governors Forum.

Expatiating on the curfew, Buhari said:

“This means all movements will be prohibited during this period except for essential services;

“There will be a ban on non-essential inter-state passenger travel until further notice;

” Partial and controlled interstate movement of goods and services will be allowed for the movement of goods and services from producers to consumers”.

Buhari also announced that the lockdown imposed on Lagos and Ogun states and the Abuja Federal Capital Territory will stay till 4 May.

Phased and gradual easing of the lockdown measures will begin thereafter, he said.

Buhari also announced a 2-week lockdown on Kano. where there have been reports of many deaths, believed to be Coronavirus-related in recent days.

Other measures announced are:

*Mandatory use of face masks or coverings in public.

*Maintaining physical distancing and personal hygiene.

*Restrictions on social and religious gatherings shall remain in place.

He urged state governments, corporate organisations and philanthropists to support the production of cloth masks for citizens
