Chief Dr Lilian Chinasa Obenwa has congratulated the former Governor of Abia State and the Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu on his Supreme court victory today 8th of May, 2020.
Recall that Orji Uzor-Kalu was on December 5 (Thursday) 2019 ‘convicted’ of N7.65billion alleged fraud and was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment by Justice Mohammad Idris of Federal High Court sitting in Lagos in a case instituted against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Also recall that the All Progressive Congress (APC) chieftain, Chief Dr Lilian Chinasa Obenwa (Igolo South East) had after the “illegal conviction” of the senator last year stated that the conviction of the former Governor and the Senate Chief whip was a mere distraction to his legislative duties as he’s going to come out of it triumphantly.
Today, the Supreme Court had argued that Justice Mohammed Idris JCA lacked jurisdiction to try and convict Orji Uzor Kalu and 2 Others. Decision convicting them has Been set aside by the Supreme Court. Section 396 (7) of ACJA is unconditional.
So, it’s with a great joy that, I with other party faithfuls celebrate with the Distinguished Senator, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu on his victory today and the nullification of his conviction by the supreme court.
