Chief Dr Lilian Chinasa Obenwa (Igolo South East) has rejoiced with the former Governor of Abia State and the Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu as he regained his freedom today 2nd of June, 2020.
Recall that Orji Uzor-Kalu was on December 5 (Thursday) 2019 ‘convicted’ of N7.65billion alleged fraud and was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment by Justice Mohammad Idris of Federal High Court sitting in Lagos in a case instituted against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Also recall that the All Progressive Congress (APC) chieftain, Chief Dr Lilian Chinasa Obenwa (Igolo South East) had after the “illegal conviction” of the senator last year stated that the conviction of the former Governor and the Senate Chief whip was a mere distraction to his legislative duties as he’s going to come out of it triumphantly.
On the 8th of May, 2020, the Supreme Court had argued that Justice Mohammed Idris JCA lacked jurisdiction to try and convict Orji Uzor Kalu and 2 Others. Decision convicting them has Been set aside by the Supreme Court. Section 396 (7) of ACJA is unconditional but the Senator was held back on the order of the EFCC.
But today, 2nd of June 2020, the Former Governor and current Senator representing Abia North Senatorial Districts, Sen Orji Uzor Kalu regained his freedom from custody.
