The Federal Ministry of Education had in a release signed by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Mr Ben Gong on the 27th of July, 2020 and sighted by profjaysblog that secondary schools (exit classes) should reopen on the 4th of August, 2020.
The decisions to unanimously reopen schools for exit classes was reached by the Ministry of Education, Honorable Commissioner for Education of the 36 States, Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Proprietors of private schools, and Chief Executives of Examination bodies today being 27th day of July, 2020 for the purpose of writing SSCE, JSCE and other related examinations.
As preparations are at the top gear to open schools this week, by most states in Nigeria for the exit classes, to enable them write their examinations, many parents have been caught in deep excitement with the facts that their wards are finally going to see the four walls of the school again as they have been off the classrooms for the past four months due to the outbreak of coronavirus (covid-19) in Nigeria.
Proprietors and private school teachers especially were not left out as it seems hope is gradually coming their ways as their means of livelihood were cut off completely, especially for those whose daily bread solely depends on their salaries.
Many States Government have directed their schools to either open on the 4th of August as stated by the Ministry of Education or fix a later date to enable them carry out extensive compound cleaning, disinfection and fumigation in all the state schools and its environments.
But the case is different in Rivers State, as many teachers and parents are in the dark. The State Government has neither communicated properly to the schools through the Commissioner for Education nor pass out any information to know when schools in the states will be reopening for exit classes as it’s obtainable in other states.
Some public school principals have asked their teachers to resume tomorrow (those affected), while some told their teachers to wait till they get proper signal from the state government so they don’t fall into the hands of the state task force that have allegedly been set out to look out for schools who will be opening tomorrow as there seems to be too many misinformation on when schools will reopen for the exiting classes in the state.
So, if you’re part of those in Rivers State, who are still in the mood of excitement, just calm down as your mood may be changed since your schools are not too sure of reopening tomorrow.
So, let’s see what happens if the state government will put out any information as to when schools in Rivers State will be reopening for exit classes.
