Abia Government Rewards 5 Corps Members, Corps Medical Team Donates Consulting Table Amidst Low Key POP

Amidst the low keyed Passing Out programme of the 2019 Batch C stream II corps members, the Abia State Government on Wednesday 28th October 2020 rewarded 5 outstanding 2019 batches B and C corps members with state honour award and over N1 million cash prizes.

In her welcome address at the award ceremony, which held at the conference room of the Secretary to the State Government, the State Coordinator NYSC Abia, Lady Bona Fasakin, reported that the corps members, including Nyah Patrick AB/19B/0235, built a 2 room bungalow for an indigent widow, Oluwatobi Mathew AB/19C/0561,drilled a functional water borehole for a school in his host community, in addition to donating some desk to his PPA.

While Adeola Oluwagbemileke AB/19C/0750, empowered 26 widows. Two (2) of the awardees, Sebe Godspwer, AB/19C/1332 and Babatunde Dolapo AB/19C/0859, fabricated and donated to the state Government 2 semi automated foot leaver hand washing machines for the fight against covid-19 in the state, amongst other life touching personal CDS projects.


While presenting the 5 awardees to the Governor, the Commissioner Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and Chairman NYSC Governing Board, Chief Emeka Ikwuagwu noted that despite the challenges experienced in most part of their service year as a result of the covid-19 pandemic, the corps members were still able to initiate and execute some laudable personal CDS projects and as such deserves the recognition by the state government.
Delivering his address, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu who was represented by the SSG, Barr. Chris Ezem commended the corps members not only for accepting to serve in the rural communities of the state, but for touching the lives of the people in various ways. While charging them to continue to render selfless services to humanity wherever they may find themselves, he urged them to feel free stay back and earn a living, if possible get married in the state.
The high point of the event was the presentation of cash awards and state honours award certificates to the five awardees.


Earlier in the day, the State Coordinator also received members of the Medical and Health CDS group who came to donate a consulting table to give the Abia NYSC clinic at the secretariat a face lift.
