Hilda Desmond-Ihekaire Esq emerges coordinator of African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA) Rivers State Chapter as she held her AGM/Elections on the 4th of November, 2020.
AWLA is a non profit, non governmental organisation with the aim of protecting the rights and interests of women and Children in Africa.
His Worship Comfort Adango Esq. in her speech admonished the new EXCO before swearing them in, to keep the flag flying in protecting the rights of women and children, liase and work with other civil society groups with similar objectives to make maximum impact.
Below is the list of the newly elected excos of AWLA Rivers State Chapter:
- 1. Hilda Desmond-Ihekaire Coordinator.
- 2. Grace Adikema Ajaegbo – Assistant Coordinator.
- 3. Gloria Anuri Ohia – Secretary.
- 4. Urang Atawo- Ogutute Treasurer.
- 5. Ogenero Emu- Welfare Secretary.
- 6. Buduka Okoroma – Assisant secretary.
In her acceptance speech the new coordinator Hilda Desmond-Ihekaire Esq thanked the members for giving them an opportunity to serve and promised to build on the laudable achievements of the outgone executive led by Cordelia U. Eke Esq.
She stated that the three planks of her administration will be;
- Advocacy on protecting the rights of women and children in Africa, nay Rivers state
- Continuing legal education of members in keeping abreast with current issues on women and children’s rights
- Welfare of members
- Infrastructural development of the association among many others.
Princess Iyingi Green FICMC, who served as the Chairman of the Electoral Committee presented certificate of return to the newly elected executive.
