Abia Sets up Mobile Court on Environmental Sanitation

Abia State government says it has set up a mobile court in the state to check the unabated harmful environmental attitudes of the people particularly in Aba.

The Commissioner for Environment, Mr Tony Nwamuo, who stated this while monitoring environmental activities in the commercial city strongly condemned the actions of the auto mechanics at Clifford, School and Weeks roads who have converted the newly reconstructed roads into workshops thereby thinning out vehicular movements on them and causing untold hardship to other road users.

Mr Nwamuo who gave the operators 72 hours to vacate the streets frowned at the level of degradation their activities have caused on the roads stressing that the expired engine oil constantly poured on the asphalted roads and defecation into the gutters have not only defaced the streets but also damaged them to the extent of throwing the roads back to their hitherto deplorable conditions and setting the state backwards in its progressive step of achieving all round infrastructural development.

At the newly constructed Osusu, Ebenma and Egege roads, the commissioner called on residents to join hands with the administration of Dr Okezie Ikpeazu to build the state and stop disposing their waste into the drainage systems.

Meanwhile, earthwork activities are in progress at Ngwa Road, Obohia and Ohanku roads as Mr Tony Nwamuo expressed satisfaction with the situation and hope that with the increased operations of the construction companies that have deployed more equipment, the projects will witness accelerated progress and appreciable results before the next visit of the Governor.

It will be recalled that during the recent commissioning of Osusu Road in Aba, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu threatened to sack the Commissioners for Environment, Works and others associated with the ongoing reconstruction work along Ngwa Road if more equipment are not mobilized to accelerate the projects.
