Gov Wike Under Heavy Attack For Pledging N500m to Sokoto State Government

Nyesom Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has come under heavy attack for gifting the sum of five hundred million naira (N500m) to support Sokoto State Government to rebuild the Sokoto Central Market that was affected by fire on Tuesday.

It was also revealed that part of the money will be used to support the victims of the fire that destroyed the market and goods suspected to worth billions of naira.

This was made known to newsmen and the general public by Governor Wike’s Special Assistant on Media, Kelvin Ebiri

The social media community was also gutted by electronic fire when it was made known by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Kelvin Ebiri that the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has pledged the sum of N500m to support the Sokoto Central Market fire victims and the State Government in rebuilding the burnt market.

This is not the first time the Governor would rush to other people’s State to give arms while there are many victim of casualties in his State who are looking for his little support to start all over again.

A case study are the victims of Ikoku4 who were brutally tortured, beaten and detained by the eCrack team of the Nigeria Police Force at Mile 1 Police Station. The case of these Ikoku boys went viral when one of them, Chima was said to have been killed by the Police while in Police custody. The boys had narrated their ordeal to newsmen immediately they were set free and that was not until their colleagues at the popular motor spare parts market (Ikoku) had staged a protest and some other spirited individuals joined in the agitation to register their anger at the ways and manners in which the eCrack team were handling the matter. It received the attention of the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu and some other captains of industries like Human Rights activist, Lawyers etc

They quickly forwarded the matter to court and autopsy was carried out but the Police refused to release the receipt of the autopsy to the public. A whole lot of things went beneath the ground but to cut the long story short, some of the personnel involved in the case were found guilty and discharged from duty.

I may not have the whole day to myself to outline many other victims of casualties, natural disasters, others in Rivers State that went viral but could not be either consoled or compensated by the said Governor who flew to far away Sokoto State with our tax money.

Most of the social media commentators had faulted the generosity and the magnanimity of the Governor towards the people of Sokoto State while his people are languishing in poverty as a result of his stringent political game in the State. They had accused the Governor of neglecting his people in terms of job creation and providing them with an enabling environment.

On several occasions, the Governor had promise to revamp the entertainment sector of the state and for the past 6years, it has always been promise as usual. He has always claimed to be a lover of entertainment but had never contributed a “dime” to the growth of the entertainment industry in Rivers State, yet, he can rush to Sokoto State to pledge a whole N500m to the State Government.

It is clear that the Governor has done tremendously well in terms of road constructions in some part of Obio Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas of the state though his developmental strides is yet to be felt in other parts of the state aside the above mentioned LGs.

The Governor needs to concentrate more on job creation, construction of factories or revamping the dead ones if any to enable the youths get engaged in meaningful things and be useful to the society.
