President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Major General Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff six days after the death of Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru in a plane crash that claimed about 8 other lives in Kaduna State, profjaysblog reports.
Late Ibrahim Attahiru died on the 21st of May, 2021 aboard NAF Beechraft King Air 350 plane near Kaduna International Airport.
The new Chief of Army Staff, Major General Farouk Yahaya was before now the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1Division of the Nigerian Army and the Theatre Commander of the Counter Terrorism and Counter Insurgency Military unit in North East of Nigeria.
Farouk is a member of 37 Regular Course of the Nigerian Defense Academy, Kaduna State.
Major General Farouk was in-charge of fight against Boko Haram in North Eastern part of the Country.
He was born on the 5th of January, 1966 and he’s from Sifawa Bodinga Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Major General Farouk Yahaya was admitted into Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA as a member of 37 Regular Course in 1985 and graduated in September, 1990
He obtained a Bachelors of Arts Degree in History and Masters Degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy.
He was General Officer Commanding 1 Division before he handed over to Major General Usman Mohammed in April, 2020 after which he was transferred to handle the Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole (OPLD) in Maiduguri, Borno State Capital.
