Awla celebrates children's day with Community Secondary School Olanada Port Harcourt

The Rivers State chapter of African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA) Nigeria has celebrated this year’s children day with the students of Community Secondary School, Olanada, Port Harcourt Rivers State, profjaysblog gathered.

In her opening remarks, the Rivers State Coordinator, Hilda Desmond-Ihekaire Esq expressed joy and gratitude to Almighty God for the opportunity to celebrate the children’s day with the students. According to her, children are the worlds most valuable resources and it’s best hope for the future.

She enjoined the students not to listen to people who will come to deceive them, make them not to study hard, and try to distract them at their young age.

She also admonished them to always report anybody who intimidate or threaten them to the appropriate authority in the school, their parents or to AWLA.

“We know that as children, you people are vulnerable, and that’s why we want to tell you ways that you can protect yourselves against predators and paedophiles, and to avoid being distracted by bad influence”

“Anybody coming to you at this stage of your lives to tell you about love, relationship, about something that is not right is trying to spoil your future”, she advised. She also encouraged the students to, simply, tell any person, who comes to them thus: “Thank you for showing interest in me, but please, don’t disturb me while I’m growing.”

Ifeoma Agbo Esq. taught the students how to maintain good personal hygiene.
Ogenero Emu, the welfare secretary of the association, spoke on drug abuse and the need to shun cultism.


The secretary of the association, Barr. Gloria Ohia encouraged the students to always believe in themselves, and avoid bad company if they want to excel in any career they wish to pursue.
On her part, Regina Ovoro admonished the students on the need to cultivate good reading habits early and be focused.


While Faith Adebo Esq took them on speaking up and the dangers of keeping silent. After the intensive engagement and at the end of the questions and answer session , a student of the school Miss Victory Friday was presented with a gift by Hilda Desmond-Ihekaire Esq for answering questions correctly.

The high point of the occasion was the cutting of the children’s day cake by the students, AWLANS and their teachers.


The principal of the school, Mrs. Doris Chinwo thanked AWLA immensely for educating and empowering their students.
