Rivers State has recommenced the payment of monthly stipends of the Federal Government’s Household Uplifting Programme known as Conditional Cash Transfer (Hup-CCT) to the beneficiaries in the six Local government Areas in the state.
According to Dr. (Mrs) Christiana Sibor Head of Rivers State CCT Unit,
10,000 was paid to each poorest of the poor and vulnerable for September and October 2020, monthly stipend of #5,000 each month to 9,588 beneficiaries in the state.
The payments of cash Transfer which will extend to other local government areas commenced in six Local government areas.
The LGAs presently benefiting are, Degema, Akuku- Toro,Ogu/Bolo, Okrika,Tai and Khana.
The CCT is one of the components of National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) through the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management and Social Development.
Dr. Christiana Sibor, Head of Unit, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the, essence of Conditional Cash Transfer was in fulfillment of President Muhammadu Buhari’s promise to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in the country.
She added that with CCT payment ” Beta Don Come” beneficiaries have acquired assets individually and in groups that have actually better the life of the poor and vulnerable beneficiaries in the State.
She, however advised the beneficiaries to always use the money for its intended purpose, which is meant to graduate them from poverty and continue to attend coaching and mentoring sessions to improve their lives.
Dr (Mrs) Christiana Sibor commended His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, for his support and commitment to the welfare of the people of Rivers State, particularly the poor and vulnerable.
Some beneficiaries who spoke to NAN at disbursement venue, expressed joy over the payment, and thanked President Muhammadu Buhari, for the kind gesture towards the poor and vulnerable at the grassroots in Rivers State.
