Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has said that he will continue to discourage ndi Abia from stoking the embers of ethnicity which are capable of dividing the state on account of who succeeds him in 2023.
Governor Ikpeazu stated this when he received in audience at the Government House, Umuahia, Ohuhu stakeholders in Umuahia North LGA who paid him a courtesy visit, said instead, ndi Abia in general should join in searching for a candidate that has love for the state.
He said that no one local government nor zone can produce a Governor, adding that all parts of the state should join hands in finding a candidate that will recognize that every part of Abia is important.
The Governor noted that Ohuhu land remains the cradle of the politics of development in Nigeria, noting that it was under the watch of an illustrious son of Ohuhu, the Late Dr Micheal Okpara that the old Eastern Region became the fastest growing economy in the world and this feat was achieved without crude oil, noting that the examples of MI Power remain inspirations for today’s leaders.
He thanked Ohuhu sons in his administration for their dedication especially the Honorable Commissioner for Finance, Dr Aham Ukoh whom he described as a pillar that has stood by him even in the build up to the elections that made him Governor.
On the Ulonna North and South Farm Settlement established during the administration of Dr Michael Okpara ,Governor Ikpeazu said that the solution to the quagmire surrounding the farm settlement lies in a partnership between the State Government and Ohuhu people,regretting that efforts made by his government to untie the quagmire in the past failed.
He requested that their sons who had earlier paid him a visit, with respect to the farm settlement, to come up with an update on their proposal regarding the farm settlement.
Dr. Ikpeazu also directed the Commissioner for Finance, Dr Aham Uko, to liaise with the Commissioner for Works to come up with a solution to the dilapidated Ofeme bridge; with a view to alleviating the plight of the people of Ofeme and Ohuhu in general.
He thanked Ohuhu people for their support and role, which he said had contributed immensely to his success in office and assured that he would continue to work on ongoing projects initiated by his administration in Ohuhu land.
The Governor made it clear that he has no reasons to stand against the political aspirations of Ohuhu people and urged them to deepen their conversations with constituents in the different local government Areas (LGAs) making up the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal constituency with respect to producing the next House of Representatives Member.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation and former Nigerian Ambassador to Argentina, Chief Empire Kanu, commended the Governor for his giant strides in office ,particularly his interest in the welfare of Ohuhu people and implored him to rehablitate the Ofeme bridge damaged during the civil war as well as revive the Ulonna North and South farm settlement.
Also speaking,a one time PDP Chairman in the state Chief Uzodinma Okpara appreciated the Governor on his good works in office and assured him of a continuous support of Ohuhu people,while reminding him that it is the turn of Ohuhu to produce the next Honorable Member for the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency.
The Member representing Umuahia North (Ohuhu) State Constituency at the State House of Assembly, Hon Kelechi Onuzuruike, the President General of the Ohuhu Welfare Union, Chief Obi Aguocha, and other top Ohuhu sons and daughters were part of the delegation.
