Just In: The Untold Story of EndSars Protests of 2020 in Benin City, Edo State

Two years after the EndSars protest in Benin City and across the country, it is estimated that, over 200 youths are still languishing in Police custodies in Benin City, the Edo State capital. We also discovered that, amongst those still in Police custody are those, whose houses, properties were invaded by the Nigeria Police Force a month after the protest.

Many have been forced to leave the shores of the country over the fear of being wrongly prosecuted by the security agencies for their involvements in the EndSars protest after Police had allegedly released pictures of persons whom the authority claimed were hoodlums that hijacked the EndSars protests and also involved in breaking into the correctional center facility at Sapele Road, Benin, Edo State.

The claims by the Police was said not to have been completely true as pictures were on public notice in some of the Police Stations in the capital city without same being circulated to the public or any media houses across the country.

The Nigeria Police Force as a security agent has denied that, no one is/was in their custody across the country over the EndSars protests.

A secret investigation into the endsar protest in Benin city shows that 2 year after the protest, innocent people are still in police custody awaiting trials that they may never get.

Innocent people were arrested to allegedly replace criminals who were said to have escaped from the correctional center at sapele road. This comes after the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki had given the Police 48hours to re-arrest the escaped imates from the correctional center. This led to the police arresting innocent people to allegedly cover up.

Over hundreds of people are on the run outside Nigeria. According to our correspondent, a police insider who wants to remain anonymous informed our correspondent that the pictures at the police stations were allegedly captured by a bank security cameras and are wanted for promoting violence although he claimed that there was no factual evidence against those arrested and those on the wanted lists.

He said it unlawful and unprofessional but only the authorities has answers to questions regarding that.

I was refused access into the information on the wanted lists, from our investigations, sources to some persons on the wanted list by the police shows that most of them now live outside Nigeria with mor of them in Dubai and few across Europe.

Conclusively the EndSars of 2020 has been way back but so many innocent people are still in police custody awaiting trial, while some are on the run and our source also saiad it may likely take up 5- 10year before the police may close all case file regarding EndSars protests.
