The former Deputy Speaker Rt Hon Ifeanyi Uchendu has stated unequivocally that the executive has no hand in the Impeachment exercise of the Speaker Rt. Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji.
Uchendu who stated this in a virtual discussants by newsmen on Saturday maintained that the house of assembly was almost turned to a one man show as members became uncomfortable with that leading to his impeachment.
the former Deputy Speaker Uchendu also explained that his assertion that the 7th Assembly achieved so much is not about the Speaker alone but the entire members of the 7th Assembly, stressing that “We accomplished so much together. It was so because of the collective contribution of the members and not strictly down to the Speaker”.
Uchendu further revealed that the said Impeachment move was as a result of his high handedness and abuse of office by Chinedum Orji,adding that the house was supposed to seat at least 182 times in a calendar year as stipulated by the constitution while noting that the 7th Assembly have never met that target due to his inability to convene plenary as expected.
He maintained their own factional group with the two third forming a quorum held a Valedictory Session yesterday because they were not ready to back out without the ceremonial Valedictory Session at the end of each House.
“The former speaker couldn’t convene the session because he had lost the loyalty and cooperation of the members, Things went so bad, But the problem is that he is always on the internet misleading the general public on the state of affairs in the Assembly”.
