The Nigerian Bar Association Ahoada Branch witnessed a deciding moment for the bar as the branch conducted an election today, the 30th day of June 2023.
The Chairmanship position was contested for by two ladies, Hilda Desmond-Ihekaire, Ph.D, McArb and Mrs Lauretta Unwobiyeuma Nwokaeze Esq.
The candidates for other positions were unopposed.
After the election, the chairman of the electoral committee, Mr. Kingsley Nweye, Esq. announced Dr. Hilda Desmond-Ihekaire, as the winner, having pulled a total of 20 votes against her opponent, Mrs. Lauretta Unwobiyeuma Nwokaeze who got 15 votes.
She was duly sworn in by Hon. Justice Sylvester Popnen.
By her election and swearing in, Dr. Hilda Desmond-Ihekaire Esq has become the first female chairman of Ahoada Bar. Her tenure will run for two years.
Other members of the newly sworn-in executives are; Romeo Need E as Secretary, Igoma Isephemugh Loveday as Treasurer and Odueley Blessing M. as Welfare Secretary.
In her inaugural speech, the new chairman, Dr. Hilda Desmond-Ihekaire thanked the members for their confidence in her, and for giving her the opportunity to serve.
She extended a hand of fellowship to her opponent, promising to carry everyone along. To her, it was a win-win situation for all. She also commended the guidance and support of the elders of Ahoada Bar.
In his congratulatory speech, Chairman Ihua Maduenyi expressed confidence in the new leadership that they have all it will take to bring Ahoada Bar to brighter limelight.
In his good will message, Elder F. J. Abigo, also congratulated the new executive, and advised the Chairman to run an all inclusive administration by carrying everybody along, in the avowed spirit of the Family Bar.
