In a keenly contested election for the position of Eluama Development Union’s President General, Chief Cyril Uchenye has been elected as the new PG to pilot the affairs of ndiEluama in the next three years, pjtvnews reports.
The election which produced Chief Cyril Uchenye as the President General of the union was held at Eluama Town Hall in Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State on the 31st of March, 2024.
The election which was previously scheduled to hold on Saturday, 30th of March, 2024 was cancelled and rescheduled for Easter Sunday after some irregularities, non conformity with the voting processes were spotted mid-day to the election.
The voting started at about 1:35pm with accreditations of eligible members by Engr Chief Chinedum Aruoguo and Mr Francis Udeagu. After one is cleared, he or she goes straight to the polling stand to vote for his or her candidates.
The voting process was adjourged one of the most transparent, free and fair elections ever conducted under the auspice of Eluama Development Union Worldwide.
The election ended at about 5:54pm, then, sorting of results by Mr Francis Udeagu and Mr Ogbajiogu John and other election agents.
The Electoral Committee Chairman, Chief O.U Ogbonna made the declarations immediately after the election that, Chief Cyril Uchenye polled a total votes of 237 votes to emerge the President General while his opponent, Chief Engr Chiweuba Onyike polled a total of 137 votes to come second.
The Electoral Committee Chairman, Chief O.U Ogbonna also announced Chief Ndubuisi Joseph Utugbo as the Vice President General after a tough fight with his opponent, Surveyor Lee Ochemba.
Chief Engr Chiweuba Onyike polled a total of 148 votes while Chief Cyril Uchenye polled a total of 237 votes to emerge as President General of Eluama Development Union Worldwide.
Surveyor Lee Ochemba polled a total of 166 votes while Chief Utugbo polled a total of 227 votes to emerge as Vice President General.
Kelachukwu Onyejelam polled a total of 167 votes while Emmanuel Onuoha polled a total of 214 votes to emerge as Secretary General.
Amb Uche Umunne polled a total of 177 votes while Emeka Kingsley Mbachu polled a total of 206 votes to emerge as Financial Secretary.
Chiweizu polled a total of 141 votes, while Chigozie Okoro polled a total of 171 votes to emerge as Provost 1.
According to the ELECO, Chief (Barr) Amason Iroegbu as Legal Adviser 1, Vincent Owunna as Assistant Secretary General, Juachi Ochu as Public Relations Officer (PRO), Uche Umahi as Treasurer, Echewendu Leonard as Provost 2 were all returned unopposed.
While addressing the correspondent of pjtvnews after the election, Chief Cyril Uchenye thanked everyone who came out to elect him as their new PG and also commend the electoral committee for their transparency in conducting a free and fair elections.
He stressed that, this election is for the good people of ndiEluama and he will make sure that, he does not disappoint them.
He reaffirmed his commitment to serve EDU worldwide with sincerity, while pledging not to disappoint the union. He went further, to plead with his opponent Chief Engr Chiweuba Onyike to work with him for the growth and development of the union.
The newly elected executives will be sworn and inaugurated during the union’s 2024 December convention.
