The Chairman, House Committee on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Control, Hon Amobi Ogah, has moved a motion to control the devastating erosion menace in some communities in Abia State, pjtvnews reports.
The motion was moved during the green chamber’s plenary session on thursday, 16th May, 2024.
In a video sighted by pjtvnews correspondent, the honorable member representing the people of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Chief Ogah moved the motion on the need to control the devastating erosion menace on the 2.8km Umuokogbuo, Uporoto to Ahonta road, Eluama in Isuikwuato Local Government Area and Orie Ngodo road to evangel secondary school road in Obinulo Ngodo Isuochi road in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State respectively.
Hon Ogah informed the house of the effects on erosion on these communities and how it has posed a great threats to their health, pattern of living and disrupts them from accessing other neighboring communities.
Ogah noted that, the erosion has caused some negative technical and social economic effects in the activities of the indigenous people of the affected areas.
The erosion has also cut off the affected communities from other sisters communities, at such, has made live more difficult and unbearable especially to the aged parents who can’t easily access the primary health care center within the affected areas.
After presenting his motion to the house, the Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Benjamin Kalu who was the presiding officer during the plenary session mandated the committee on ecological funds to utilize the ecological funds to effect the control of the erosion as presented by Hon Ogah.
The house through the deputy speaker also urged the federal ministry of environment to come in and control the 2.8km erosion menace after the house had voted in favour of the motion as moved by Hon Amobi Ogah.

Erosion, which is the process or act of wearing away or removal of soil, rock, or other materials by natural forces like water, wind, or ice has eaten deep into the aforementioned communities and a quick intervention is needed to control and combat this menace before it causes more damages to the communities.
