NBA Family Bar Visit Abua/Odual CTC Chairman, Hon Madighi Dickson


The Ahoada Branch (Family Bar) of the Nigerian Bar Association, paid a courtesy visit to the Abua/Odual Local Government CareTaker Committee Chairman, Hon Madighi P. Dickson  and his members at his administrative quarters on the 19th of August, 2024.

In attendance was the Chairman of Ahoada Branch of the NBA, Hilda Desmond-Ihekaire, Ph.D, accompanied by her entire executives and a few notable members.

The NBA chairman, first congratulated the council Chairman on his well deserved appointment as the chairman of the caretaker committee of Abua/Odual Local Government Council by the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara on the 18th of June, 2024. She prayed that God will grant the CTC chairman the wisdom of Solomon to carry out his numerous responsibilities.

The Ahoada NBA Chairman enumerated various works already done by the CTC Chairman within the short period of his appointment, and applauded him for his sincere interest in the development and progress of Abua/Odual local government area and the society in general, especially in his honest efforts at improving the security situation in Abua/Odual area.

She particularly thanked the Chairman for the renovation of Magistrate court, provision of light in some rural areas in Abua/Odual, provision of water in some communities lacking good water and other amenities including empowerment of the youths. She urged him to continue his good works, and never relent.

She further recognized the difficulties faced by the CTC Chairman in carrying out his duties more particularly the blockage of the local government Secretariat by the Nigerian Police Force, which has posed as an obstacle in carrying out his duty as much as he ought to. The NBA Chairman emphasized that there was no complaint on any security breach or intended security breach to warrant the blockage of all the 23 local government secretariats in Rivers State. She also stated that the blockage of the Secretariat is causing loss of revenue for the state, and unnecessary payment of workers for work not done. She called out to the Inspector General of Police to withdraw his men from all the 23 local government Secretariats, as the duty of the Police is to remain partisan, maintain law and order in the society, and not to abuse their authority.

She assured the Abua/Odua CTC Chairman of the readiness of the branch to work with him. More so, she urged him to partner with the branch and also support the Family Bar, especially on the basic needs of the branch such as the building project and other good facilities required for the progress of the branch.

The CTC Chairman, Hon Madighi P. Dickson thanked the Family Bar for their visit and encouragement, and also used the opportunity to inform them of the council’s achievements within the last two months of his appointment as the Caretaker Committee Chairman. He elaborated further on the council achievement particularly the solution provided to end an outbreak of cholera in Abual/Odual Local Government which caused the death of some children.

Finally, the CTC Chairman thanked NBA Ahoada for their support and encouragement, and promised to partner with the branch for the development and progress of Abua Odual Local Government and the entire Orashi region.
