Football Competitions have always been a way to unite societies, build capacities of participants, showcase and harness young talents and guide them away from negative influences to a better future.
It is for this reason the Uwem Sunday James Foundation has chosen to sponsor this years Ukpum Ete Unity Cup, ensuring that the event remains an annual event to look forward to.
Speaking on the event, the Chairman of the Foundation, Uwem Sunday James said “one of our goals is to promote youth empowerment & socioeconomic development, so sponsoring a project that will unite all 19 villages of the Ukpum Ete Clan, empower it’s youths, put their energy to positive use and increase the socioeconomic activities of our people is something we are proud to be associated with”.
He said, Akwa Ibom youths are skilled and highly talented in a lot of areas and competitions like these go a long way to bring them to limelight, while also ensuring the reduction of restiveness and social vices in our communities.
Also speaking on the preparations, the organizers disclosed that the fifteen teams that registered to participate in the tournament are all excited and in high spirits, and have since commenced training in readiness for the games.
The winning teams will go home with a N100,000 as the 1st price while 2nd and 3rd price winners will get N70,000 and N50,000, and the Best Player of the tournament will get his football career supported by the Uwem Sunday James Foundation.
The Football Competition which kicks off with an opening match on Sunday 8th December, 2024 and climax on 1st January, 2025 with the Finals, is open for youths in the entire 19 villages of the Ukpum Ete Clan in Ikot Abasi Local Govt Area of Akwa Ibom State.
