On the 8th of December, 2024, the chairman of UWEM SUNDAY JAMES FOUNDATION, Uwem Sunday James, a proud son of Ukpum Ete Clan officially flagged off the 2024 edition of Ukpum Ete Unity Cup at the Methodist Central School sports field, Ukpum Ete, Ikot Abasi LGA.
The tournament hosted by Uwem Sunday James Foundation, has become a beacon of community engagement, excitement, jubilation and sports development across Ukpum Ete Clan.
Speaking to newsmen after the opening march, UKPUM ETE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION ( UEFA ) Chairman, Comr. Uduak Ekanem and some players expressed appreciation to the organizers and sponsors as the tournament is geared towards improving sporting activities in Ukpum Ete.
Uwem Sunday James while presenting the tournament jerseys to all 15 registered teams courtesy of the USJ Foundation, said the importance of sports cannot be over-emphasized, and that the tournament will help foster unity amongst villages in the Clan and also discover young talents.
In a brief speech, the immediate passed president of Mboho Ukpum Ete, Engr. Nsima Edittu expressed his gratitude to Uwem Sunday James for shaping the future of young people in the community.
The opening match played between Ikot Akan village and Okpoto village ended in a goalless draw.
The colorful ceremony attracted large crowd of sports lovers across Akwa Ibom State.
