The Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Sir Sim Fubara performed the ground breaking ceremony of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Ahoada Branch (The Family Bar) secretariat building project on the 17th of January, 2025 at Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The Executive Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency Governor Sir (Dr.) Similayi Fubara, GSSRS ably represented by the Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Government House, Hon Edison Ehie, Ph.D. thanked the NBA Ahoada branch for bringing to bear one of the dreams of the founding fathers of the state. The Governor commended the Chairman of NBA Ahoada branch, Hilda Desmond-Ihekiare, PhD, FCArb. for her unwavering commitment to, and deep passion for the growth of The Family Bar.

Hon. Edison Ehie while speaking, stated that, with the support of the Local Government Chairmen and himself, the building project will be completed within 12 months. He affirmed the support of Gov Similayi Fubara to see to the completion of the secretariat.

The ground breaking ceremony was conducted by the Chief Judge of the state who was represented by Hon Justice T.S. Oji.
Hon. Justice Senegho Legor, speaking on behalfof the President, Customary Court of Appeal, Hon. Ihemnacho Obuzor commended the NBA Ahoada branch chairman, Hilda Desmond-Ihekaire for her dedication to the Bar, and also urged other members of The Family Bar to give her all the necessary support and encouragement needed for the speedy completion of the project. Popnen,Ph.D, Rita Ogugua,Ph.D Learned magistrates & Honours of Rivers tate judiciary.
The attorney general of the state Hon. Dagogo Israel Iboroma, SAN expressed his warn congratulations to NBA, Ahoada on this landmark secretariat building project. He pointed that the building project was not just a secretariat, but an avenue for the advancement and promotion of the course of justice and rule of law.
Eze Ekpeye Logbo ІІІ, Eze Sir (Amb.) Kevin Ngozi Anugwo through his representative commended the NBA Ahoada for coming up with this beautiful structure, describing it as a welcome development capable of fostering unity, peace and progress in Ekpeye Kingdom. He expressed his warm congratulations to the NBA Ahoada branch maintaining that he is enormously proud of the Bar.

The Chairmen of Ahoada East, Ahoada West and Abua/Odua Local Government Areas pledged to support the building project with the sum of fifty million naira (N50,000,000) only. The Chairman of Ahoada East Local Government Hon. Chibudom Rizzy Ezu, speaking on behalf of the other two Local Government Areas, commended Ahoada NBA for her record breaking project and warned that, nobody should interrupt the building project, as anyone found doing so would be dealt with according to the law. He stated that any complaint should be directed to his office. The Chairman further stated that he would appreciate more of such building projects to be cited in Ahoada Ethnic Nation as such will encourage progress, peace, development and creation of jobs for the youths, while soliciting the people’s cooperation to sustain the existing peace enjoyed in Ahoada community.

On the other hand, the Chairman of Ikwere Local Government Area, Hon. Amb. Israel Abosi congratulated the Chairman and members of NBA Ahoada for their landmark acheivement within a short period of time. He supported the building project with the sum of Ten Million Naira (N10,000,000).

In another development, the Chairman of NBA Isiokpo Branch, Simple Dioha, Esq. who spoke on behalf of the other chairmen of NBA Branches in Rivers State outlined the achievements of the NBA Braches in Rivers State as per the cooperation, unity and love amongst them.
The Chairman of Port Harcourt branch Cordelia Uwuma Eke, Esq. on her part gave good will message on behalf of the Port Harcourt branch and promised to support Ahoada being her home branch and encouraged members of the family bar to unite and contribute their quota to complete their laudable project in record time.

She concluded by enjoining the executive and members of the NBA Ahoada Branch (The Family Bar) to stand solidly behind their Chairman for the accomplishment of the secretariat building.
