Europe Day 2025: Abia Marks Strong Presence as Hon. Chinasa Leads Delegation to European Union Reception

In vibrant display of international diplomacy and strategic engagement, Abia State made a bold statement at the Europe Day 2025 Reception held at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton, Abuja. The event, hosted by His Excellency Gautier Mignot, the Ambassador of the European Union to Nigeria and ECOWAS, brought together top diplomatic, political, and development stakeholders, and Abia was firmly in the room.

Representing the Governor of Abia State, Hon. Iheanyi Frank Chinasa, the National Assembly Liaison Officer, led a high-powered delegation to the event, reaffirming the state’s readiness to engage global development partners in driving homegrown progress. Hon. Chinasa was joined by a distinguished team from the Abia State Government including Engr. Ikechukwu Monday, Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Hon. Iheanacho Obioma, Political Adviser to the Governor and Mr. Eric Odinakachi Eme, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Multilateral and Donor Agencies.

Their presence was more than ceremonial—it was strategic. Europe Day, which celebrates peace and unity in Europe, also serves as a platform for fostering stronger collaboration between the EU and its partners, particularly in areas of economic development, infrastructure, governance, climate action, and institutional strengthening.

For Abia, the 2025 reception was an opportunity to align with these themes and deepen conversations on partnerships that can catalyze the state’s transformation agenda under Governor Alex Otti. From energy reforms and public infrastructure to education and innovation, the prospects of EU-Abia cooperation remain vast—and the state delegation made sure those doors were opened wider.

Speaking after the event, Hon. Iheanyi Frank Chinasa emphasized the importance of being visible in global circles where development policies are shaped. “Our presence here today signals Abia’s seriousness about engaging the world. The EU is a critical partner in Nigeria’s development journey, and we are ready to bring those benefits home to our people,” he stated.

With ongoing reforms in Abia’s governance, power, and public service delivery sectors, the state stands positioned to attract donor support, international investments, and technical partnerships.

As the music of unity echoed through Congress Hall and diplomatic handshakes exchanged, one thing was clear: -Abia is not just watching from the sidelines—it’s stepping onto the world stage, ready to collaborate, innovate, and accelerate development for its people.
