Former Rivers State Sole Administrator, Ibok Ete Ibas, has reacted to the Rivers State House of Assembly’s move to probe expenditures during his tenure.
Recall that Rivers State received at least ₦254.37 billion from the Federation Account Allocation Committee between March and August 2025, during the tenure of the sole administrator. Ibas’s Senior Special Adviser on Media, Hector Igbikiowubu, in an interview with newsmen, stated that the lawmakers lacked the power to investigate him, as they did not appoint him as the administrator of the state. He said the lawmakers, having been away from legislative duties for some time, were merely trying to demonstrate an effort to discharge their functions. He further argued that the attempt to probe the former administrator was tantamount to probing the President, who appointed him, as well as the National Assembly, which supervised his activities.
He added that while no one can stop the Assembly from investigating what they perceive to be within their jurisdiction, the attempt to probe the immediate past administrator of the state would be a fool’s errand.
