Total Lockdown: Court Convicts 171 Persons in Rivers State

Rivers State mobile court sitting at the Covid-19 Elekahia Isolation Center has convicted about 171 persons arrested between 7th of May and 8th of May 2020.

The mobile court had convicted the people for faulting the total lockdown placed by the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike on Obio Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas respectively.

Recall that the Governor had on the 4th of May, 2020 placed the two Local Government Areas on total lockdown indefinitely and warned Rivers State residents to obey the law or face prosecution.

The offenders of the Executive Order RVSG 06 2020 were on Thursday dragged to court by office of the Attorney General of the state for breaching the order of the lockdown, prohibiting vehicular movements within the two Local Government Areas.

The total lockdown was put in place to check the spread of the covid-19 (coronavirus) in the state. Remember that the state has had about 15 confirmed cases of covid-19, with two discharged persons and has recorded two deaths.
