We were made to understand that the land was acquired in the year 2014 through Abia State Housing and Property Development and all statutory fees were made to the State Government for the 75 units of 4 bedroom bungalow and documents handed over to them which neccessitated the kick off of work on the hectares of land in ernest.
But troubles started sometimes in 2017 when Umuana community where the estate is cited started frustrating the developer to continue in developing the estate of which almost over 50 units of the 4 bedroom bungalow apartments have been built. The community alleged that the hectares of land were forcefully taken from them without any form of compensation from the Government and has caused a lot of set backs to the estate developer.
It was discovered that the community had vowed that the developer will only be allowed to continue work on the landed property if the needed compensation is paid to them.
So, after series of negotiation between the community and Abia State Government, through Ministry of Lands, the Umuana Community were compensated through allocations of hectares of lands to all the affected Community kindred that there lands were taken. But the developer, Obioma Enterprises Nigeria Limited is yet to be issued her Certificate of Occupancy (CofO) despite attracting and bringing development to the area even after paying all statutory fees to the Government since 2014.
The developer was promised a new documents (CofO) to the landed property to enable them kick off sales of the built properties and also recoup their funds but this development has met serious hitches as they have always been told series of stories.
The developer while discussing with our correspondent said the issue, if not well attended to may scare away some investors from the state which may set the state backward in terms of development.
It was further revealed that the developer is a genuine, humble business man and also a major stakeholder in the development of Abia State through his several businesses cited in the State which has over hundreds of Abians under its payroll.
Obioma Enterprises Nigeria Limited, is using this opportunity to plead with the Ministry of Lands, and the State Government to Wade into this issue and release the Certificate of Occupancy (CofO) to them to enable them have full access to the property.
While speaking with newsmen, the Director of the estate, Chief Obioma said he’s pleading with the state Government to accelerate the process of the CofO to the landed property to allow them start selling off the properties as the delay in Issuing the certificate has caused them a lot of setbacks in their business.
