The Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Kaniye Ebeku has handed the Principal of Community Secondary School, Ogbogoro (CSS Ogbogoro) Mr. Otamini and a teacher to the state School Board for extorting monies from candidates sitting for the ongoing WASSCE in the school.
The candidates had informed the commissioner who was on routine inspection that their principal demanded a levy of N4000 from them before they would be allowed to enter the examination Halls.
Over 652 candidates are participating in Monday’s mathematics in the school.
They also accused a certain teacher simply identified as Mr. Rikki of previously collecting varying sums of N23000, N5000 and N4000 for clearance, uniforms and registration for the exam which has already been paid for by the state government.
Upon interrogation, Rikki admitted he was collecting illegal levies.
He also confessed he had collected N440000 from candidates writing Mathematics today on behalf of the school principal.
But when confronted by the Commissioner, the principal, Mr. Otamini denied the accusation.
Our correspondent reports that after the Commissioner threatened to hand Rikki over to the Police, he immediately produced N320000 of the sum.
