BEING A DECLARATION SPEECH FOR UMUAHIA CENTRAL STATE CONSTITUENCY, ABIA STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY, 2023: LET US CONSOLIDATE TOGETHER

My Dear Elders, Youths and Stakeholders, as we begin the ultimate search for a worthy representative of our great Umuahia Central State Constituency at the Abia State House of Assembly come 2023, I come to you with profound humility and a high sense of responsibility knowing full well that the task before us is not only enormous but also intricate. This is because the achievements of our current representative, the multiple award winning Speaker, Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji MNSE, are not only sterling and monumental on one hand, but also, because of the uniqueness of our constituency which, as a cosmopolitan area, covers a great part of our state capital with all its divergent interests, are of a special nature on the other hand.

The shoes Mr Speaker is bequeathing to us are simply immeasurable! This is why, my Dear Elders, Youths and Stakeholders, we need to support an aspirant who has learnt the ropes in very disciplined circumstances directly under the tutelage of Mr Speaker, an aspirant who understands the fact that no one man’s feet can fill in the shoes he is leaving behind but that it will take the feet of as many constituents as possible to fill; an aspirant who has the presence of mind, the required comportment and the needed intellect to navigate the complex processes of lawmaking and who understands that the people’s interests are THE ONLY REASON he was elected especially when we consider that we must not fritter away the towering legacies of Mr Speaker but that, together, we must consolidate on them, hence, my CONSOLIDATION AGENDA..And that calls for a humble, humane and listening representative who carries everybody along, without airs.

This is why my aspiration is based on the Collective and not on me as an individual. If out of the abundance of your magnanimity, I become your representative, I shall serve as a true representative of the people, by the people and for the people; your easily accessible, approachable and relatable legislator.

Let me reiterate that I am very much aware that the task before us all is immense, the enormity of the CONSOLIDATION AGENDA is stupendous, but I am equally audacious, never fazed, never cowed and never bowed. Together, we will sustain the legacies on ground and even reach for higher heights.

I, therefore, most respectfully put myself forward to endure the burdens of this responsibility in order that you will enjoy the benefits, benefits arising from Quality Representation, People-Oriented Legislation and Constructive Oversight.

On this note, I was humbled to have picked the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms today, the 1st Day of April, 2022, at the State Secretariat of our great Party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, with the great conviction that I shall serve you with all my strength, all my might and all my intellect, with the fear of God.

So help me God!
