The Abia state Governor Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has urged Online Media Practitioners in the state to help project the state and avoid writing things that will de-market Abia.
Governor Ikpeazu who was speaking when he received audience the Abia Online Media Practitioners Association (OMPAN),led by the state chairman chief Paddy Anyatonwu at Governor’s lodge Aba, said Abia state is strategic in the survival of Ndigbo,”so we should be mindful of what we say or what we write about the state”
He described the role of the press as very important in the growth and development of every society,state and nation,added that media can make or mare any country.
According to him,” You people are perception managers and you drive the society, you can put forward or backward the state.
“Perceptions when they go to far,it is difficult to come back so if you are not careful on who you promote ,what you promote and agenda you promote, you could realize that you are promoting something that will undermine you and your environment.
” But as perception managers if you focus on what will make our society grow and if you can set out what is good in an individual and promote the virtues that are good that is nice .
” So whether Abia state will grow or not it is in your hands. If you de-market your state ,eventually in your curriculum vitae for state of origin,you will put Abia,so you do not know how far your interventions can go across the world.
” So I am only urging us that this your profession is important that you are protected by the status in our constitution that is tells you how serious the society takes the work you do” he said.
Governor Ikpeazu informed that his administration has constructed many roads that can stand the test of time in Aba using cement technology, explained that” why I use cement, concrete with 9 inch rod to construct roads is build quality roads that can last because the person who will come after me will not go back to those roads I built that is the only way we can recover our cities and if we continue to recycle on the same roads when are we going to do virgin roads ” he queried.
He challenged media practitioners to be professional in the course of doing their job and avoid being hired by politicians because of their inordinate ambition to assessinate or distract the government from performing .
He disclosed that he never promised anyone that he was going to solve all the problems of the state rather that he prefer to be judged by the things he has done so far,noted that there are many things that no body can take away from him. “You can not take away that this government gave Abia long term development plan ” he insisted.
He therefore solicited for the support and assistance of Abia Online Media practitioners Association in the promotion and projection of the state .
Earlier,the Abia state chairman of OMPAN Chief Paddy Anyatonwu said social media play vital role in the development and growth of every state as well as in engineering news,pointed out that any government that ignore the roles of the social media does so at its own peril while commending Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for being focused despite the series of criticisms from different angles.
