Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators, Rivers State Chapter Inducts New Members

The Rivers State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators (NICArb), on the 25th of November, 2022 celebrated the induction of it’s new members at Mass Central Hotels, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.


In her opening remark, Rivers State coordinator of the institute, Dr. Hilda Desmond-Ihekaire, on behalf of the registar of the institute, Shola Oshodi John Esq.(FCArb) and the board and governing council of the institute, welcomed the inductees and their guests to the 2022 induction of its members. She commended the magnanimity of the Management of the Institute in making provision for the physical gathering of it’s members in Port Harcourt, saving them the physical and financial stress of traveling to Lagos, amidst the current security challenges in the country and time constraints.


It was also an opportunity for friendly interaction among members.
She reminded the inductees that being a member of the institute offered them an opportunity to create a web of networking opportunities.

The Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators is a non government, non profit association limited by guarantee, dedicated to the promotion of arbitration and other forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa. It was founded in 1979 by Hon. Justice Bola Ajibola of the International Court of Justice Hague and former Attorney General of Nigeria.

The institute also provides opportunities and privileges for those who want to make a career, not only in arbitration, but also in other forms of alternative means of dispute resolution.

The institute encourages and supports its members by allowing them free publication rights in its journal
In her conclusion, the coordinator, Port Harcourt Chapter of the institute, Dr. Hilda Desmond-Ihekaire, to delight of its members and guests, announced the inauguration of Port Harcourt Chapter of the institute.


The highlight of the ceremony was the cutting of the induction cake, supervised by the former National Treasurer, Nigerian Bar Association, Mrs Tess Morris Okeke Esq.

Other dignitaries who graced the occasion were Prof. Chris Wigwe SAN, Dean Faculty of Law, Rivers State University, Prof. Clifford Nwanyanwu of the department of Law, Rivers State University, Dr Ransome West of the Faculty of Law, Michael and Cecilia Ibru University, Agbarha-Ottor, Delta State, Prof. Ibibia Worika, Dean Faculty of Law, University of Port Harcourt, Chief Kingsley Chuku and many other other personalities.


They commended the institute for its work and encouraged all and sundry who wants to excel in arbitration to identify with Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators.
In his vote of thanks Prof.Ibibia Worika thanked the institute for excellent service adding that NICARB is the institute to identify with.
