It was an epoch-making event today, Friday 27th January, 2023, as the Abia State SDP Governorship candidate Apostle Dr Ngozika Gladys Johnson-Ogbuneke was honoured and endorsed by the Association of Persons Living With Disability (PWD), Abia State Chapter. It was a double accolade, as she was equally received and honoured by the students of the School of the Blind, Umuahia, Abia State.
Apostle Dr Ngozika was well received by the Head of PWDs in Abia State, Mr Wisdom Okechukwu, as well as the State official, Mazi Ugo Nwankwo, who acted in similar capacity. Her presence was duly acknowledged with a welcome song by the students of the School of the Blind.
In his opening remark, the Head of the Association, Mr Okechukwui decried the dilapidated state of the school facilities, as well as the aggregate plights of the students. He, therefore, made a case of plea for the rehabilitation of the school dilapidated infrastructure and improvement in the general welfare of the students.
In her response, Apostle Dr Ngozika assured both the students and the Abia State Chapter of the Association of PWDs that her administration will usher in a new wave of care for the overall welfare of PWDs and other students with special needs in the state. She also promised to ensure an inclusive government across gender, which would encompass all persons of Ndi-Abia including those living with physical challenges, with a total support for the care and aggregate well-being of the students with special needs.
Apostle Dr Ngozika cited and thrilled the audience with the life of Baron David Blunkett of Great Britain, who though was born blind, lived in a British Society which encouraged him to live a fulfilled life, taking him to the apogee of serving as a Member of Parliament in the UK, and now a Baron of the House of Lords. She assured the students that she will always support them and encourage them, at all times. She implored them not to lose confidence in themselves because of their physical condition. She also inspired the requisite confidence in them to realize that, no matter their condition, they still remain the salt of the Earth (Abia State), as well as the light of the world. She also encouraged them to be studious and diligent in their studies by giving in their best to their academic endeavours, as well as other extra-curricular activities, leaning on the Scriptures at Matthew 5:13-16.
The students rendered some inspirational, inspiring and heart-rending songs to herald the end of the event. Apostle Dr Ngozika prominently was assured of the total and indelible support of the Association in her pursuit to become the next Governor of Abia State, come 2023. They also prayed with her to mark the end of the awesome event.
