Trouble Brews In Enugu Community As Commissioner For Chieftaincy Allegedly Takes Bribe To Change Community’s Decision

There is tension in the Ishienu-Amofu autonomous community Nkerefi in Nkanu East LGA of Enugu state following the supposed Igweship election to replace their late king who was murdered in 2015.

In a letter seen by our correspondent, the Community Forums such as the youth wing (Ishienu-Amofu Youth Association), the Ishienu Amofu Concerned Citizens Forum and other groups wrote to the governor of Enugu state, media, and security agencies accusing the commissioner for Local Government, Rural Development and Chieftaincy, Decon Okey Ogbodo, accusing him of collecting bribe of 10 million naira from the group of an Israeli-based citizen of the community who is also contesting for the Igweship to postpone the already scheduled date to enable him return and manipulate the election.

The letters which read in different captions: ‘NOTICE OF PENDING DANGER DUE TO ALLEGED POSTPONEMENT OF IGWESHIP ELECTION IN ISHIENU AMOFU AUTONOMOUS COMMUNITY, NKEREFI AND ALLEGATION REGARDING ATTEMPTED MANIPULATION OF IGWESHIP DATE IN ISHIENU AMOFU AUTONOMOUS COMMUNITY NKEREFI’ raised concern over impeding danger and the consequences of the commissioner’s action in the community, the letter signed by the youth president Comrade David C. Ani said that the members of the gang who are causing havoc in the community are boasting around the community on how they can easily control the commissioner through the bribe of 10 million naira they have offered.

The youth wing also called for the removal and probe of the Commissioner, adding that he is corrupt and not capable of handling such a sensitive office.

They also added that the commissioner has thrown many communities in the state including the neighboring community to Ishienu-Amofu, Mburubu into crisis over the Igweship election due to his corrupt nature.

They called on the governor of Enugu state to look into their matter and order for the election date not to be shifted again as the community has been without a king for over 9 years.
