The Governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general elections, Chief Barr Dumo Lulu-Briggs has addressed the people of Rivers State and Nigerians at large during his well publicised statewide media parley with several television stations, radio stations, blogs, social media influencers and several other stakeholders and party executives at his Kalabari home yesterday, 5th October, 2026, pjtvnews gathered.
During the media parley, Dumo Lulu-Briggs hinted on why he was running and his plans for the people of the State if and when elected into office as the next Governor of Rivers State.
Dumo stressed that, Rivers State possesses much of what it needs to succeed; human resources, energy and gas, ports and waterways, industrial experience, including enormous potential in tourism, blue economy, agriculture, culture and creativity, and the commercial strength of Port Harcourt. Our challenge is conversion, businesses, better public services and more secure household incomes.
That’s why I’m running; to move rivers state from politics without purpose to discipline and committed public work, from sharing poverty to creating prosperity and from a state known mainly for oil and gas to a state respected for what its people built, produced and became.
“We must return to the proper rules and habits of good government, from fear to purpose, from conflict to competence, from noise to work, from political connection to fair opportunity and from public wealth that is difficult to see in people’s lives to a government that can be judged by clear results.”
He noted that, the vision of his administration if elected would be to lay the foundation of moving the state from the current approximation of a $20bn economy to one that will become a $200bn economy in (15years) fifteen years. He stated clearly that, his administration will lay the essential foundation for safer politics, honest public finance, more reliable power supply, better logistics, serviced industrial land , thriving tourism sector, employer-linked skills, stronger farms and fisheries, cleaner and safer communities and projects prepared well enough to attract serious finance and reach operationalisation.
Dumo stated that, public money would be spent with discipline and the state budget would provide essential public services, prepare serious projects and build infrastructure that enables production. His government will not pretend that is the only path to progress when commercial project can attract private development financing and professional operatorship.
“Useful inherited projects and lawful obligations will be judged on evidence and not on who started them.”
He stressed that, his administration, if elected would also treat environmental protection as part of the core duty of government. From riverine communities facing pollution to coastal risk to urban communities facing flooding, unsafe water and failing drainage systems.
In conclusion, he emphasized that, at the end of his tenure, Rivers people are free to ask if politics is safer, institutions are more trusted, priority projects have moved beyond announcements and weather small and medium scale enterprises work better in supported areas, if tourism, the creative sector and blue economy have been given their proper places and if more people have moved from training into real work.
