The Acting Managing Director of the NDDC, Prof Nelson Brambaifa has declared that he is a classroom teacher and therefore does not have other priorities than ensuring that the infrastructural and developmental gaps identified years back by the Willinks Commission which led to the establishment of Agencies like the NDDC is addressed under his watch.

Prof Brambaifa explained that his vision is to build capacity through wealth creation and poverty reduction. In his words, “job creation is key to wealth creation in the region and empowering the teeming Niger Delta populace with the right skills set, which will lead to reduction in the poverty index of the region”.

In the same vein, the NDDC boss, as a Professor of Pharmacology, believes that health is wealth, and, it is only a sound body that can pursue economic opportunities. Against this backdrop, the NDDC is poised to help bridge the health delivery gap in the rural Niger Delta by embarking on free medical services together with equipping and renovating cottage hospitals. To demonstrate its seriousness, Management has signed an MoU with an Oncology Centre in Cross River state which it hopes to escalate to the nine (9) mandate states of the NDDC as part of measures to fulfill the heath component of its interventionist mandate.

Finally, the NDDC boss appealed to citizens of the region to chart a new course of action by engaging the Agency in dialogue on all issues as the current Management under Prof Brambaifa operates an open door policy.
