The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, today 7th November, 2019, received about 2000 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to the State. The Governor, who was at the states’ NYSC permanent site Umunna in Bende LGA for their swearing-in ceremony advised the Corps Members to be law abiding, good ambassadors of Abia State and their various States.
Speaking, the Governor who was ably represented by his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Sir Udo Oko Chukwu assured the Corps Members of the safety of their lives and property while in camp and throughout their service year in the State. He admonished them to shun Vices while in the state but to integrate with their host communities. The Governor expressed confidence in Abians as hospitable and peace loving people; “I am sure you will find your stay like your predecessors, fulfilling” he said amongst many other words of encouragement.
In his own address, the Hon. Commissioner for Youths and Sports development, Chief Emeka Ikwuagwu, Who also doubles as the Chairman, Abia State NYSC governing council, challenged the Corps Members to be creative, innovative and productive, while in the State as Abia is noted for its high level of productivity. He urged them to avail themselves of the various entrepreneurial outreaches made available by the Governor of the state to acquire basic skills in any productive venture in the state. “My office is open any day to listen to your ideas and complaints which must pass through the Schemes approved channel” he added. The Commissioner, finally urged them to be of good conduct while in the state. Promising to be present at any of their events and the Ministry of Youths readiness to partner with innovations from any Corp member.
The ceremony witnessed the presence of top dignitaries which included, the Chief Judge of the state, ndi Eze, top NYSC State Officials, top Military and Paramilitary officers, Transition Chairmen, Governors aides.etc.
The orientation programme will end on 25th of November, 2019.
