The Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (OMPAN), Rivers State Chapter, has lauded the Rivers State Police Command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, on his professionalism, neutrality and diligence in dealing with the ongoing political crisis in the state.
The Online bloggers urged him to continue to tole the path of peace and progress in protecting the lives and properties of the state.
In a statement signed by the State chairman of the group, Chidiebele Okoye, in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, OMPAN also commended the State Police Command for taking over the 23 council headquarters and other critical government facilities,
following the breakdown of law and order in the various Local Government Council secretariats in Rivers State where supporters of the two political factions clashed over the tenure elongation of Local Government council chairmen, whose tenure expired on Monday, June 17, 2024.
He noted the deployment of conventional police officers and anti-riot police officers to these facilities to forestall further bloodshed and breakdown of law and order was a step in the right direction.
The group expressed delight in the Command’s appeal to all groups and individuals to be law-abiding, not allow the full wrath of the law befall anyone planning to disturb the peace of the State.
He said: “OMPAN wishes to commend the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, for demonstrating professionalism in handling the current political crisis in the state.
“We want to urge him to continue to maintain neutrality in the face of the prevailing political impasse, so as to achieve the desired peace, which Rivers people are clamouring.”
The group, however, declared its stance to be objective in its reportage of the events happening in the state.
OMPAN further urged the state Police Command to maintain its commitment in protecting lives and property.
