The Labour Party Senatorial Candidate for Abia North Senatorial District, Chief Dr. David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex, MFR, OON, has congratulated the Government and people of Abia State as the state marks the 35th anniversary of its creation, describing the occasion as a celebration of the journey, resilience and enduring aspirations of Ndi Abia.
Bourdex, in a goodwill message issued to commemorate the anniversary, said 35 years in the life of Abia State represents far more than the passage of time, but tells the story of a people who have continued to pursue their collective dreams despite the challenges encountered along the way.
According to him, Abia’s journey has been defined by struggles and triumphs, disappointments and resilience, as well as the determination of its people to build a state capable of reflecting its enormous human and material potential.
The Abia North Senatorial hopeful paid profound tribute to the founding fathers and mothers whose vision, sacrifices and determination contributed to the creation of Abia State.
He also acknowledged past leaders and other individuals who, in different capacities over the last three and a half decades, have contributed to the growth and development of the state.
Bourdex said while it is important for Ndi Abia to remember and appreciate those who laid the foundation for the state, the anniversary also presents an opportunity to reflect on the present and the future.
“Thirty-five years in the life of a State is more than a passage of time. It is a story of a people — of our struggles and triumphs, our disappointments and resilience, our aspirations and the enduring determination of Ndi Abia to build a State worthy of our enormous human and material potential.”
Chief Bourdex gave special recognition to Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, describing the current period as an important moment in the history of the state.
He said Governor Otti’s leadership has rekindled hope and restored the confidence of many Abians in the capacity of government to deliver meaningful development.
According to Bourdex, the renewed focus on infrastructure, institutional responsibility, prudent governance and the rebuilding of communities is gradually giving Abia a new direction.
He noted that beyond physical development, one of the most significant changes taking place is the growing confidence of Ndi Abia in the possibilities and future of their state.
“At this important point in our history, Abia is fortunate to have at the helm of affairs His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, a Governor whose leadership has rekindled hope and restored the confidence of our people in what government can accomplish,” he said.
Bourdex further saluted the governor’s courage, vision and determination in pursuing the New Abia agenda, noting that leadership at this critical period carries the responsibility of helping to redefine what the state can become.
Reaffirming his political commitment, Bourdex said his aspiration to represent Abia North in the Senate is connected to the broader vision of ensuring that the senatorial district actively participates in and benefits meaningfully from the transformation taking place across Abia State.
The Labour Party candidate said the task ahead goes beyond celebrating the achievements already recorded, stressing the need to build stronger institutions, expand economic opportunities, improve connectivity between communities and create greater opportunities for young people.
He added that development must be extended to every part of Abia State to ensure that no community is left behind.
“As the Labour Party Senatorial Candidate for Abia North Senatorial District, I reaffirm my commitment to this vision of progress and to working for an Abia North that participates fully in, and benefits meaningfully from, the transformation of our State,” Bourdex stated.
Bourdex urged Ndi Abia to use the 35th anniversary not only to celebrate the age of the state but also to embrace what he described as a new awakening of hope and possibilities.
He expressed optimism that the greatness and potential that have always existed within the people of Abia can become an everyday reality through purposeful leadership, unity and sustained commitment to development.
The Abia North Senatorial candidate prayed for God to continue to grant Governor Otti wisdom, courage, strength and good health as he leads the state.
He also remembered the founding fathers and mothers of Abia State and extended his goodwill to Ndi Abia at home and in the diaspora.
“At 35, therefore, let us not celebrate only the age of Abia. Let us celebrate the awakening of Abia. Let us celebrate the return of hope,” Bourdex said.
