Deputy Governor leads strategic meeting to harmonise political structures across the five LGAs and build a united grassroots campaign for all Labour Party candidates.
The political machinery of Abia North Senatorial District is gradually moving into full campaign mode ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, taking the lead in mobilising political appointees from the district for a coordinated electoral effort.
In what is being seen as a strategic move to strengthen the Labour Party ahead of the elections, Emetu convened a meeting of political appointees from Abia North, candidates, Labour Party leaders and elected officers on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia.
The meeting brought together political appointees from across the five Local Government Areas of Abia North — Arochukwu, Bende, Isuikwuato, Ohafia and Umunneochi — with the central objective of harmonising their structures, strengthening coordination and preparing the district for the 2027 political contest.
As the political leader coordinating the meeting, Deputy Governor Emetu gave a pride of place to the need for unity, organisation and collective responsibility among political appointees from Abia North.
The meeting was designed to bring the various political structures together and ensure that the appointees work with a common understanding of the political assignment ahead.
Rather than allowing individual structures to operate independently, the gathering provided an opportunity for the appointees to align their efforts and develop a more coordinated approach to grassroots mobilisation.
The political task before the stakeholders is therefore to take the mobilisation beyond meetings in Umuahia and establish effective structures within their respective constituencies.
Under the leadership of Deputy Governor Emetu, the political stakeholders from Abia North have agreed to intensify their mobilisation efforts and work towards delivering the Labour Party candidates across the Senatorial District.
The commitment is expected to involve sustained engagement with constituents, grassroots stakeholders, party members and voters ahead of the election.
Five LGAs, One Political Direction
The inclusion of all five LGAs in the mobilisation effort is considered crucial to the Labour Party’s strategy.
From Arochukwu to Bende, Isuikwuato, Ohafia and Umunneochi, political appointees are expected to strengthen communication and mobilisation within their respective areas.

The political appointees are expected to take the message of the administration’s programmes and policies to their respective communities while simultaneously mobilising support for the Labour Party’s candidates.
The Deputy Governor’s role in coordinating the Abia North appointees further places him at the centre of efforts to consolidate the political gains of the administration within the Senatorial District.
The political objective is to ensure that the structures supporting the administration are properly organised ahead of the 2027 elections.
With the 2027 elections drawing closer, political activities across Abia North are expected to intensify.

While speaking, the Abia North Senatorial Candidate, Chief Dr. David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex, MFR, OON, appreciated the Deputy Governor for convening the meeting and assured everyone that all the candidates are ready to work with all stakeholders towards a resounding victory for the Labour Party in the 2027 elections.
