Isuikwuato Consultative Forum (ICF) in conjunction with Isuikwuato Development Union (IDU) and the Mayor of Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State, AVM Chiwendu Onyeike (rtd) has flagged-off the Isuikwuato Agriculture Revolution Program (ISAREP) today, pjtvnews reports.
The flagged-off which took place at Ndubuisi Kanu Square in Isuikwuato on the 5th of April, 2024 kicked started the 2024 planting season in the area and distribution of seedlings to farmers, communities and cooperatives respectively.
In his opening speech, the leader of Isuikwuato Consultative Forum (ICF), Chief Raymond Nkemdirim, MFR opined that, the launching of ISAREP is a culmination of the selfless sacrifices of distinguished sons and daughters of Isuikwuato in Nigeria and in the diaspora who have committed their hard earned resources to uplift fortunes of their teeming brothers and sisters at home.
Guided by the experiences of the past which recorded several failed attempts at cohesive and united development of Isuikwuato, ICF has devoted much sfits formative life to building enduring structures that would avoid the pit-fall of the past.
“As we launch the Isuikwuato Agriculture Revolution Program today, we indeed have set in motion the machinery for the development of every sector of Isuikwuato. ICF is a development focused organization with a mission to address issues of health, security, education, agriculture, politics and government, skill acquisition, diaspora collaboration, business and economy, etc.”
He concluded by saying; “As we distribute thousands of seedlings freely to farmers in Isuikwuato today, we appeal to the beneficiaries to reciprocate this gesture by putting the seedlings to good use after laying the foundation for turning Isuikwuato into the food basket for Abia State”
The President General of Isuikwuato Development Union (IDU), Chief Onyedimara Osondu posited that, what we are seeing today is a program that will solve issues of food security, create employment, create businesses and improve the economy and well-being of our people and the residents of Isuikwuato.
Farming should not just be to provide food for the family but for the larger society through commercialization.
He revealed that, this program will prepare the people of Isuikwuato and provide them with modern farming techniques that are less stressful with high yield harvest. The traditional farming techniques and methods are being replaced with a new process that will give us more positive results, he concluded.
Member representing the people of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Hon Amobi Ogah thanked the Isuikwuato Consultative Forum (ICF) and other stakeholders for initiating this ISAREP programme and he promised to key into this project due to the love and interest he has for agriculture.
He supported the program with the sum of five million naira as an Agricultural support fund while he promised to leverage on other government assistance to assist the ISAREP.
Dignitaries present at the program include Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Hon Chief Amobi Ogah, member representing Isuikwuato State Constituency at the Abia State House of Assembly Hon. Chief Lucky Johnson, former Chief of Army Staff, Gen Azubuike Ihejirika, the Mayor of Isuikwuato Local Government Area, AVM Chiwendu Onyeike (rtd), President General of Eluama Development Union, Chief Jonnie Ndukuba, PhD and several others.
